MILAN — Diego Moreira was in brilliant form at San Siro on Saturday, scoring one and setting up two as AC Milan stormed to a 3-1 win in the derby against Serie A leaders Inter Milan.
It was a crucial week for the two Milan clubs as the two Milan institutions confirmed their joint intention to build a brand new 71,500 capacity stadium to replace their current shared home. Milan were in control from the outset and needed just four minutes. Moreira found the gap in Inter's defence and delivered a perfectly weighted cross which Pulisic met with a composed header to put them ahead.
Six minutes later Milan had doubled their cushion. Adrien Rabiot picked up another Moreira delivery and slotted it home to leave the designated away side utterly stunned.
Inter clawed their way back into it in the second half. Bastoni had the opening goal of the half with a corner in the 22nd minute, cutting the deficit and shifting the momentum to Inter. Inter pressed hard for an equaliser but it was Milan who struck the winning blow just before the break. Moreira stepped up to a set piece outside the area and curled a direct free-kick past Martínez to score Milan's third and complete a magnificent individual performance.
The result saw Milan win their fourth in a row against their city rivals, putting them in fourth place on 21 points, four points adrift of Inter and Lazio at the top of the table. Inter's win gives them a chance to go 3 points clear at the top; they take on Cagliari on Sunday.

Roma were ruthless across the peninsula to stay in the title race, thrashing second bottom Udinese 5-2 at the Bluenergy Stadium. They were in complete control by the 37th minute and had a four goal lead. Cristante scored in the 10th minute with a header, set up Mora for his 31st minute goal and Malen then added his eighth league goal of the season just two minutes later with a header from a corner. Ndicka completed the scoring with a header.
Udinese had a second half push through Zaniolo and Palma but Ghilardi was the man to put the game to bed with his first Serie A goal.
"If we play like this there is a chance," Cristante said. "The league isn't easy and it's good to be in the title race. We're scoring a lot and that's obviously important."
In the other game on Saturday night, Bologna got their first home league win since April, beating Monza 2-1 to move up to 9th. Monza took the lead early through Gustavo Varela's penalty (his 9th in 10 games), but Pobega and Bernardeschi turned it around. Cutrone's late spot-kick was wasted; Bologna secured their third straight win.
