Lazio Go Top in Serie A as Roma and Napoli Draw 3-3 Thriller

Lazio took the top spot in Serie A on Saturday with a 2-1 win over Juventus, putting them clear at the top of the table.

Maurizio Sarri's side used the game to move to 22 points from eight matches, putting pressure on the defending champions Inter Milan as they head into their weekend fixture with Fiorentina. Lazio opened the scoring five minutes into the second half with a goal from Kenneth Taylor (his first of the season). The lead was doubled shortly afterwards when Parma defender Diego Carlos inadvertently headed a cross into his own net. Simone Lontani equalised for the visitors late on, but Lazio held on to secure the three points.

Further south at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona there was a frantic six goal thriller as AS Roma twice came from behind to draw 3-3 with Napoli and thus maintained their 15 game unbeaten run in the league (the run having started in April).

Napoli dominated the early stages through sheer brilliance with Frank Anguissa opening the scoring with a magnificent overhead kick and Scott McTominay doubling the lead. Roma were completely and utterly dead and buried at that point, but the match was turned on its head in a four minute burst. Matias Soule and Leonardo Balerdi both scored in rapid succession to level the game. As the momentum swung back when McTominay duly scored his second of the night in the closing minutes, Balerdi struck again. The defender headed home to level with just a minute remaining to complete a sensational comeback.

"We've maintained our roles, our positions and our way of playing," Roma coach Gian Piero Gasperini said post-match. "The goals were of a very high quality. We're happy with the result, we're in a very good mood. Balerdi knows the game, he's got an enormous amount of energy and he's been a very good signing for us."

Meanwhile Como kept on their upward trajectory under Cesc Fabregas with a 2-0 win over Sassuolo. Anastasios Douvikas was the man to do it with two composed second half finishes inside the box. The Greek striker has now scored in five of his last four appearances in all competitions and is now in fourth place with 17 points.

"He's developing in a way that could make him a very, very important central striker," Fabregas said. "Over the last three years he's been one of those signings that's given a great deal of satisfaction."

In Sardinia Bologna took their second win of the campaign with a 2-0 win over Cagliari. Nicolo Casale got the opening goal to end a near four year goalscoring drought and Federico Bernardeschi finished it off.
