Kylian Mbappe scored twice, and Yan Diomande was superb, as Real Madrid beat Sevilla 4-1 at the Bernabeu on Sunday. The win cut the gap to Barcelona to six points and sharpened the title race ahead of next Sunday's El Clásico.
Mourinho's Real Madrid side have now won three in a row in all competitions. With Vinicius Jr. suspended, Arda Guler stepped up in attack. After a fairly sluggish start, Guler got the game going. A few minutes later, Guler picked up a perfectly weighted ball from Diomande and fired a sharp strike into the top corner.
Mbappe scored his first goal in the 37th minute, turning quickly to beat the defence and past goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos.
Sevilla did try to get back into it in the second half. Fede Valverde played in a bizarre right-back role, and he made a crucial run. Just past the one-hour mark, Sevilla pushed more players forward; Diomande found the gap and took it. He got past his man and played a pass to Mbappe behind the line. Andres Castrin then brought on the striker in the box. Mbappe stepped up and converted the penalty to score his second.

A rare error handed Sevilla a late goal. With 10 minutes remaining, Mbappe lost the ball deep in his own half. Substitute Manu Bueno picked it up and slotted it home to bring the deficit to one. Diomande responded two minutes later with a powerful shot to restore Real Madrid's three-goal advantage and finish off a very individual performance.
Eder Militao came on in the 85th minute. Home fans welcome him for his first appearance since his hamstring surgery in April.
Real Madrid are on 21 points and remain one point behind Atletico Madrid in second, keeping the title race tight. Sevilla drop to sixth with 14 points.
Other LaLiga games were goal-filled over the weekend. Osasuna beat Racing Santander 2-0. Celta Vigo won 2-1 at Alaves, with goalkeeper Ionut Radu making two diving saves to deny Alaves a point. Real Sociedad hammered Malaga 5-2 on the road.
