KATHMANDU — Nepalese sports administration has achieved another milestone as International Technical Official (ITO) Siddiqu Shamsuddin departs for Tashkent, Uzbekistan, to officiate at the 2026 Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championship. The tournament, held from August 7 to August 14, will feature Asia’s top young lifters. Shamsuddin will be responsible for ensuring fair competition at this continental event.
Before his departure, Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) President Jeevan Ram Shrestha hosted a formal farewell ceremony in Kathmandu to honor Shamsuddin’s appointment and express institutional support. President Shrestha congratulated Shamsuddin and wished him a successful tenure in Tashkent.
Shrestha emphasized that while athletes often receive the spotlight, technical officials form the foundation of organized sport. Referees, judges, coaches, managers, and support staff are essential to maintaining fairness, accuracy, and high competition standards.
The NOC chief also commended Nepal Weightlifting Association (NWA) President Ram Krishna Shrestha. He noted that the association’s ongoing efforts to train and certify local officials have increased Nepal’s global representation. Shrestha expressed confidence that developing international-level officials will further enhance Nepal's standing in world sporting federations.
The send-off event included key administrative figures, including NWA Secretary Kumar Man Shrestha, highlighting a shared commitment to technical development. Shamsuddin’s role in Tashkent further demonstrates Nepal's expanding influence in international sports.
