KATHMANDU — Nepal’s championship hopes ended in a packed National Sports Council covered hall on Thursday, as Iran executed a straight-sets win (25-20, 25-15, 25-11) in the CAVA Women's Volleyball Championship semifinals. Nepal, despite home crowd support, struggled for rhythm against the tournament's form team, with Iran advancing to the grand final without dropping a set all campaign. The opening set offered a glimpse of a competitive tactical battle, with Nepal trading blows early before critical service errors derailed their momentum. Seizing on the hosts' inconsistencies, Iran’s clinical execution allowed them to close out the first set 25-20. Any hopes of a spirited Nepali fightback quickly dissipated in the subsequent sets. Iran imposed a suffocating, one-sided rhythm in the second stanza, exposing gaps in Nepal’s defensive block to storm away with a comfortable 25-15 victory and establish a commanding 2-0 advantage.
Faced with a must-win third set to keep their tournament hopes alive, the Nepali squad appeared entirely depleted under the weight of Iran’s aggressive front-row attack. The visitors showed no mercy, suffocating the hosts in a blistering final set to seal the match 25-11. This defeat marks the continuation of a competitive regional rivalry between Nepal and Iran, who have faced each other multiple times in recent continental tournaments; in this year's CAVA event, Iran had narrowly beaten Nepal 3-2 in the league stage, while in the previous year’s semifinals, Nepal had earned a significant win, fueling the ongoing intensity between the two teams.
With this strong win, Iran moves on to Friday's big trophy match against Kazakhstan. The Central Asian team reached the final earlier that day with a clear, straight-set win over India, another strong team. They won 25-21, 25-17, 25-14. Iran will try to repeat their earlier win over Kazakhstan to take the top prize.
