In the opening round of the men's 56kg event in Sanda, Nepal's Rohit Chunaro lost to Jiaming Ou of China at the Aichi Prefectural Martial Arts Hall. The official contest report stated that Ou won by a one-point margin.
Rita Thakulla also lost her match in the women's 60kg round of 16 to Merjen Jorayeva of Turkmenistan, 2-0. Jorayeva won both rounds, with official scores of 4+1D and 5, respectively.
