Sevilla came from behind to beat Rayo Vallecano 2-1, while Deportivo Alaves started their LaLiga season with a strong 3-0 win over Getafe on Saturday evening.
The match in Seville started with a quick mistake. Four minutes in, defender Arouna Sangante lost the ball in his own box, and Alvaro Garcia took advantage to score and give Rayo Vallecano an early lead.
The rest of the first half was slow and broken up by several VAR checks. Rayo goalkeeper Augusto Batalla was relieved when a penalty given against him for a collision with Sevilla’s Isaac Romero was overturned after a long review. Rayo stayed ahead at halftime.
Five minutes into the second half, Sevilla changed the game. Garcia, who had scored earlier, fouled Miguel Sierra in the box. Jin Guridi scored the penalty, exciting the home fans.

In the closing minutes, physical tackles deflated the match; tough tackles became common. In the 88th minute, Sevilla’s Kike Salas made a reckless challenge and was sent off, leaving his team with ten players. Then came one final twist. Substitute Robbie Ure drove toward goal and was hacked down inside the box by Florian Lejeune, handing Sevilla a second penalty deep in stoppage time. Gerard Fernandez took charge of the kick, coolly beating Batalla to secure all three points.
Earlier in the evening, Deportivo Alaves took total control. Earlier, Deportivo Alaves dominated against Getafe, who lost their discipline before halftime. Getafe’s Kiko Femenia was sent off in the 42nd minute for a dangerous tackle. They held a numerical advantage for over half an hour. The game finally opened up in the 73rd minute through substitute Mariano Diaz. Diaz created space down the flank and picked out Facundo Tenaglia, who finished from close range.
Diaz dominated the remaining minutes of added time. Two minutes into stoppage time, the forward Diaz stood out. Two minutes into stoppage time, he scored again to make it 2-0. Just before the final whistle, Diaz assisted Mikel Rodriguez for Alaves’ third goal.
